Since March 2024, the Breast and Women’s Health Center of Metropolitan Hospital, under the direction of Breast Surgeon and Associate Professor at the University of Nicosia, Mr. Vasileios Venizelos, has been recognized as the first and only breast unit in Greece to receive EUSOMA certification.

The prestigious “Breast Centres Certification” is an internationally recognized distinction awarded by the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA). It certifies that Metropolitan Hospital operates in full compliance with the high-quality standards and clinical guidelines set by EUSOMA for the comprehensive management of breast diseases.

For the third consecutive year (2023–2024), Hellenic Healthcare Group (HHG) was honored with the Bronze Medal by EcoVadis, the world’s leading provider of business sustainability ratings. This recognition highlights HHG’s continued commitment to socially responsible practices in the areas of corporate responsibility, sustainability, and sustainable development.

For the second consecutive year (2022–2023), Hellenic Healthcare Group (HHG) was awarded the Silver Medal by EcoVadis, the world’s leading provider of corporate sustainability ratings.

This distinction reflects HHG’s strong commitment to responsible business practices, sustainability, and sustainable development.

In March 2023, the High Dependency Stroke Unit (HDU/Stroke Unit) of Metropolitan Hospital was officially certified by the European Stroke Organisation (ESO) as a Certified ESO Stroke Unit.

This prestigious certification recognizes that the hospital’s team of specialized neurologists ranks among the leading stroke care teams in Europe and is the first in Greece to receive this distinction, confirming the unit’s adherence to the highest standards of acute stroke management.

In 2017, the Breast Centre of Metropolitan Hospital was awarded the "Certificate of Membership" by the Breast Centres Network (Synergy among Breast Units).

The mission of the Breast Centres Network is to promote collaboration among breast units by connecting specialists and healthcare professionals in the field, while also helping breast cancer patients find appropriate care or seek a second opinion. Today, the Network includes 205 breast units across all continents.

The central Quality Management System of Metropolitan Hospital has been structured in accordance with ISO 9001 standards and has been certified by the international body Bureau Veritas since 2008.

This certification confirms the implementation and adherence to strict standards of safety and clinical effectiveness, while its continuous renewal reflects the unwavering commitment of the hospital’s staff to delivering consistently high-quality healthcare services.

In extension of our clinic’s ISO 9001:2015 certification, Metropolitan Hospital has also been accredited according to the ELOT EN 15224:2017 standard.

This accreditation places a strong emphasis on the management of clinical risks and the safety of patients, further reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care.

Since September 2011, the Food Services Department of Metropolitan Hospital has been certified by Lloyd’s Register (LRQA) in accordance with the internationally recognized ISO 22000 standard for food safety and hygiene. This certification not only confirms compliance with all legal and regulatory food safety requirements, but also ensures alignment with widely accepted best practices for the preparation, storage, and distribution of patient meals.

Since 2013, Metropolitan Hospital has been accredited by Temos International, a globally recognized organization, for Quality in International Patient Care and Excellence in Medical Tourism.

These certifications confirm the hospital’s compliance with rigorous standards of safety and clinical effectiveness for all patients, while also recognizing its ability to provide a comprehensive continuum of care specifically tailored to international patients - from initial contact through to discharge.

Metropolitan Hospital is proud to be the first healthcare facility in Greece and the fourth worldwide to receive this prestigious accreditation.

Following its Temos International certifications in medical tourism, Metropolitan Hospital has been recognized by the Diplomatic Council as one of the Best Hospitals Worldwide.

In April 2018, the High Dependency Stroke Unit (HDU/Stroke Unit) of Metropolitan Hospital was honored by the European Stroke Organisation with two Angels Awards: a Platinum Award for the fourth quarter of 2017 and a Gold Award for the first quarter of 2018.

In February 2017, Metropolitan Hospital was awarded the Certified ESO Stroke Unit certification by the European Stroke Organisation (ESO) for its High Dependency Stroke Unit (HDU/Stroke Unit).
This certification recognizes that the hospital’s team of specialized neurologists ranks first in Greece and among the top stroke care teams in Europe.
It is also the first and only recognized and certified stroke unit in Greece providing care to patients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Breast Unit of Metropolitan Hospital achieved significant recognition at the National Congress of the Hellenic Breast Surgery Society (EXEM) in November 2018. The unit was honored with three awards—two for oral presentations and one for an electronic poster (e-Poster). This remarkable triple distinction sets it apart as a pioneer and unique, as no other breast unit has achieved such a feat at similar conferences in the past. An additional notable aspect is that these awards represent collaborations across three different departments, highlighting the unit’s multidisciplinary approach.

The 1st Oncology Clinic of Metropolitan Hospital is the only oncology clinic in Greece recommended by ESMO, the largest European Society of Medical Oncology. This recommendation acknowledges the clinic’s outstanding achievements in healthcare since its establishment, as well as its continued potential to maintain and advance these high standards.

The High Dependency Stroke Unit (HDU/Stroke Unit) of Metropolitan Hospital has been honored by the European Stroke Organisation with three Angels Awards: a Platinum Award for the fourth quarter of 2017, a Gold Award for the first quarter of 2018, and another Gold Award for the third quarter of 2018.

The technical competence of the hospital’s laboratories and the reliability of their test results are certified by the Hellenic Accreditation System (ESYD) in accordance with the international standard ISO 15189:2012 for clinical laboratories. This certification covers the performance of microbiological, biochemical, hematological, and immunological tests.
Additionally, the accuracy and reliability of all laboratory analyses are continuously validated through high-quality external quality assessment programs, including NEQAS, EQAS, and LABQUALITY.

Since 2016, and for three consecutive periods (2016–2018, 2019–2021, and 2022–2024), the 1st Oncology Clinic of Metropolitan Hospital has been the only oncology clinic in Greece designated as a “Designated Center of Integrated Oncology and Palliative Care” by ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology), the largest professional society of medical oncologists in Europe.
This distinction recognizes the clinic as a recommended center for comprehensive oncology and palliative care.

At the Healthcare Business Awards 2024, organized by Boussias, Hellenic Healthcare Group (HHG) was honored with three major distinctions, reaffirming its leadership in innovation and social responsibility.

Specifically, HHG received:

• Gold Award in the category “Growth & Innovation – Private Sector” for its 4th Oncology Clinic and the Model Clinical Research Center
• Silver Award in the category “Growth & Innovation – Private Sector” for the Interdisciplinary Breast Center
• Silver Award in the category “Social Responsibility – Private Sector” for its “Pantou” program

The innovative “Lung Health” Lung Cancer Screening Program of Metropolitan Hospital received the Silver Award at the Patient Partnerships Awards 2022, organized by Health Daily and Boussias Communications, in the presence of leading healthcare professionals.
As a core part of the hospital’s Check-up Department, “Lung Health” is the first organized pre-symptomatic screening program in Greece for the early detection and treatment of lung cancer, one of the most common types of cancer worldwide.

The Breast Center of Metropolitan Hospital was awarded the “Center of Educational Excellence for Breast Biopsy” certification, recognizing its outstanding quality in breast biopsy training and education.

At the annual event honoring healthcare institutions for “Best Practices in Health and Notable Contributions and Vision for the Future, Benefiting Patients and Society at Large,” the Breast Center of Metropolitan Hospital was recognized with the following awards:

The Center for Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Lymphedema and Lymphatic Disorders for adults and children at Metropolitan Hospital, under the direction of the specialized lymphologist Mr. Evangelos Dimakakos, has been recognized by the VAS-European Independent Foundation in Angiology/Vascular Medicine, in collaboration with the UEMS, as one of the leading European centers for its highly advanced medical services provided to patients.

The Hypertension Clinic at Metropolitan Hospital, led by Mr. Athanasios Manolis, is the first private hypertension clinic in Greece to be certified as a Hypertension Excellence Centre by the European Society of Hypertension (June 2021). This certification recognizes the clinic’s innovative work and exceptional quality and effectiveness in research, diagnosis, management, and treatment of hypertension.

Another prestigious international recognition for Metropolitan Hospital, as its Center for Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Lymphedema and Lymphatic Disorders for adults and children has been designated a “Comprehensive Center of Excellence” by the international network for Lymphatic Education and Research (LE&RN). It is now recognized as one of the leading holistic centers for lymphedema and lymphatic disorders worldwide.

Under the leadership of Evangelos Dimakakos, lymphologist and President of the World Lymphology Society, along with a specialized team of physicians and healthcare professionals, the center stands on par with similar institutions at globally renowned universities such as Harvard, Stanford, and Johns Hopkins.

Notably, the center is the first and only facility in Greece to provide holistic treatment for lymphedema and lymphatic edema, fully aligned with the global guidelines of the International Lymphology Society.

In January 2018, an honorary award was presented to Mr. Vasileios Venizelos, Director of the Breast Center at Metropolitan Hospital, in recognition of his support for the implementation of the international volunteer program “Reach to Recovery.” This program, aimed at supporting women with breast cancer, is carried out by the Panhellenic Association of Women with Breast Cancer, “Alma Zois.”

Metropolitan Hospital has been certified by the Dutch professional organization for secondary vocational education and training in business, trade, and industry, SBB, as part of its collaboration with IIEK SVIE. This certification pertains to the training of nursing students (Nursing Assistants) through ERASMUS programs from Dutch schools. The certification was approved by Ms. Gerda Hoxe, Advisor for International Work Placements at the Foundation for Cooperation on Vocational Education, Training, and the Labour Market.
