Profile

Christos Dervenis, MD, PhD, FRCS, is holding the position of Professor of Surgery at the Medical School University of Cyprus and he is also Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology and HPB Surgery at Metropolitan Hospital in Greece. In addition, he has served as a visiting Professor of Surgery to several international academic institutes, including the Mayo Clinic Medical School, Rochester, MN and Yale University, CT USA; the University of Lund, Sweden; the University of Verona, Italy; and the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.

After receiving his medical degree from the University of Athens, Professor Dervenis completed postgraduate training in Athens; London, UK; and Hamburg, Germany.

Professor Dervenis is currently President of the EAHPB Association and the Hellenic HPB Association. He is also on the Scientific Committee of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA). He has been vice president of the HPB division of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) and President of the European Digestive Surgery. In addition, Professor Dervenis is un active member of a number of scientific journals including British Journal of Surgery, Pancreatology, the IHPBA journal HPB, and HPB Surgery.

Professor Dervenis is the editor of 3 books in the field of HPB surgery and has published over 190 papers in peer-reviewed journals, with about 18000 citations and h-index of 48.

His main clinical interests include surgery of the pancreas, liver and biliary tract, nutrition, and oncology.

Dr. Ioannis Zouridakis is a General Surgeon, specializing in Laparoscopic and Oncology Surgery, as well as Breast, Thyroid and Obesity Surgery, having attended specialty training in various medical centers in Greece and abroad.

He graduated from the Medical School of Sapienza University, Rome, in 1986. In 1994, he acquired a specialty certificate in General Surgery at Evangelismos Hospital.

Since 1992 he has been a Scientific Associate at the University of Athens, participating with his doctoral dissertation entitled "Interventions in Cirrhotic Patients with Digestive Disorders". He has participated in many scientific conferences in Greece and abroad.

He has also presented several scientific papers, achieving the First Award for Best Medical Surgical Paper at the 19th Hellenic Congress of Surgery in Thessaloniki, in 1994.

In 2002 he obtained a Specialty Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery from the University of Montpellier, France, while in 2003-2004 he attended specialty training in Oncologic Breast Diseases at the 6th Cancer Clinic, G. Gennimatas Hospital. At the same time, he received his European Specialty Diploma in Breast Cancer from the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA).

In 2004, he attended specialty training in special inguinal hernia repair techniques using a double PHS grid in Mestre, Italy. In 2005, he attended specialty training in Bariatric Surgery, Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and Treatment of Obesity in Hamburg, Germany, and later he attended similar training at the University of Athens.

In 2016, he obtained a specialty in Laparoscopic Colectomy, having attended the 2016 Colorectal Laparoscopic Surgical Skills at the Medicotechnical Research Foundation, Academy of Athens.

Since December 2010, he has been the Director of the Surgical Clinic at Metropolitan Hospital.

He is a member of the Hellenic Surgical Society, the Hellenic and European Societies for Laparoscopic Surgery, the Hellenic Society of Breast Surgeons, and several other scientific societies.

He is married to Ms. Katerina Giagiakou and has three children.
