PROFILE
Dr. Stavros Papachristos is a Specialist in General and Transplantation Surgery, holding the position of Deputy Director of the Department of Surgical Oncology and Centre for Regional Treatments of Metropolitan Hospital, in Greece. Additionally, he works as a Consultant Transplant, General and Vascular Access Surgeon, at the University Hospital of Sheffield in the United Kingdom.
He completed his service in the Hellenic Air Force, at the Hellenic Air Force General Hospital in Athens and then Chania Combat Wing. He then trained in the University Hospital of Heraklion, where he completed his Specialist training and acquired the title of Specialist in General Surgery, in 2013. Additionally, he went on to receive Fellowship and subspecialty training in Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplantation Surgery at Karolinska University Hospital, Sweden and a Fellowship in Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery at Churchill University Hospital, Oxford, UK and the Manchester Royal Infirmary University Hospital in Manchester, UK. In Manchester he has served as a Consultant Transplant, General and Vascular Access Surgeon.
He has participated and continues to contribute with a number of scientific publications and presentations in National, European and International Congresses, with Research activity in the UK and lectureships. He continually attends Surgical Training Courses and Seminars. He is currently undergoing training for Robotic Surgery. He participates in the annual appraisal system, in order to comply with the General Medical Council, UK, requirements. He has been teaching medical students, nursing staff, as well as Surgical trainees and Surgical Fellows. He is a member of the European Society of Surgical Oncology and The European Society of Transplantation.
His areas of surgical interest and Service are General Surgery, Oncology Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery, Hernias, Hepatobiliary Surgery, Solid Organ Transplantation Surgery and Vascular Access Surgery with Graft placements.
He is currently a Consultant Transplant, General and Vascular Access Surgeon at Sheffield University Hospital, UK. Additionally, he is the Deputy Director of the Department of Surgical Oncology and Centre for Regional Treatments of Metropolitan Hospital in Piraeus, Greece, gives lectures at the Medical School of the University of Crete and holds a private practice in Heraklion, Greece.
