PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
- He served his military service in the Navy; he was discharged from the 1st Internal Medicine Clinic of the Naval Hospital of Athens, where he worked as an assistant trainee.
- He served his rural service as an assistant trainee at the Surgery Clinic of the General Hospital of Filiates, Thesprotia.
- He received his specialty training initially at the Metaxas Cancer Hospital and then at Evangelismos General Hospital of Athens. He completed his training at Tzaneio General Hospital of Piraeus. He received his Specialty Certificate in Surgical Oncology in 1989 (upon exams).
- He obtained his European Diploma in Urology (European Board of Urology) in 1992 (upon exams).
- He continued with postgraduate training in Edinburgh, Scotland, initially working as a Registrar and then as a Lecturer at the University Urology Clinic of Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. He attended specialty training in Male Infertility, Endourology, Lithotripsy and Urodynamics. At the same time, he was involved in training students in urology and gave a series of lectures in advanced University Clinic courses.
- Upon his return to Greece, he began working at IKA-EOPPY (still employed as Director of the Piraeus Branch). He also worked at Hygeia Hospital as a Urology Associate and at Lefkos Stavros Hospital as a Urology Clinic Director. He has been working as a Urology Director at Metropolitan Hospital since its establishment.
EDUCATION / TRAINING
- He finished high school at the Ionideios Model School of Piraeus.
- He studied Biology at the Athens University School of Mathematics and Physics.
- He continued his studies at the Athens University Medical School.
- At the same time, he worked as a scientific associate/researcher at the Athens University Laboratory of Experimental Pharmacology, where he also completed his doctoral dissertation summa cum laude.
INTERESTS
UK Experience
He worked as a Registrar at the Urology Clinic of Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, Scotland, under the supervision of Professor G. Mr. Chisholm and Urologists Mr. J. Fowler, Mr. D. Tolley, Mr. G. Smith and Mr. T. Hargreave.
During his first months, he worked primarily in Mr. T. Hargreave’s Infertility Clinic and gained experience in the examination and treatment of infertility patients.
Later he became a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh; his main duties included work at the Lithotripsy Unit of the Scottish Lithotriptor Centre and student teaching. During that time he became familiar with the use of the WOLF 2300 Lithotriptor and all the endourological techniques (ureteroscopy, diadermal lithotripsy etc.). At the same time, he maintained his position as a Registrar at the Urology Clinic, dealing with daily clinical practice, carrying out surgical lists and fulfilling on-call duties every third day.
Throughout his stay at the Clinic, he was Head of the Urodynamic Clinic and Laboratory, where he performed several urodynamic studies and provided pharmaceutical and surgical treatment to the Clinic patients.
