CORONARY BYPASS

A large majority of our patients undergo pure coronary bypasses, including revision surgery.

Each time, the most patient-friendly method is selected to avoid systemic complications, offering anastomoses and full reperfusion of the best quality.

Our doctors use all kinds of grafts, including:

• Left breast artery
• Right breast artery
• Left radial artery
• Gastroepiploic artery
• Vein grafts

Our doctors perform all types of coronary bypass, including:

• On-Pump Bypass
• Off-Pump Bypass
• On-Pump Beating Heart Surgery

VALVES

A significant number of the procedures performed in our Department are valve surgeries, simple or combined with other procedures:

• Aortic valve replacement (AVR)
• Mitral valve replacement (MVR)
• Mitral valve repair (MV Repair)
• Tricuspid valve repair (TV Repair)
• Valve (AVR, MVR, TVR) + Coronary Bypass
• Valve (AVR, MVR, TVR) + Ascending Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Replacement

Our Department has significant clinical experience and we apply all modern techniques for aortic valve replacement.

SURGICAL AORTIC VALVE REPLACEMENT (SAVR) USING METAL OR BIOPROSTHETIC OR STENTLESS VALVES

During recent years, we have been among the first in Greece to use sutureless (seamless) valves and transapical valves through the apex of the left ventricle (TA TAVI).

Since 1994, as members of the Mitral Club, we have been applying mitral valve correction techniques (mitral valvuloplasty).

We have performed mitral valvuloplasty due to degenerative or ischemic etiology on a large number of patients.

SURGICAL VENTRICULAR RECONSTRUCTION

Our Department is one of the few cardiac surgery departments in Greece and abroad to perform Surgical Ventricular Reconstruction (SVR) surgery. These procedures are performed on left ventricular aneurysms following heavy or multiple heart attacks or following mechanical complications of infarctions, such as tears in the heart, ventricular septal rupture etc. They are performed in combination with a coronary bypass in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy, i.e. in patients with a fatigued heart.

THORACIC AORTIC ANEURYSM REPAIR

It is one of the few departmentσ in Greece to offer the entire range of thoracic aortic aneurysm repair procedures.

Our Department doctors perform procedures on the aortic root, ascending aorta, aortic arch, descending aorta and thoracoabdominal aorta. In collaboration with our Hospital’s Vascular Surgery Department and the Interventional Radiology Department, we have put together an Aortic Team - working closely together, especially on heavy cases previously considered inoperable – similarly to highly specialized and prestigious centers abroad.

HEART TEAM

Working closely with our hospital's cardiology departments (Clinical and Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Imaging Sector) we have formed the Metropolitan Hospital Heart Team. A Heart Team is internationally a prerequisite for treating high-risk patients, such as patients who are about to undergo Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI)

OBSTRUCTIVE CARDIOMYOPATHY SURGERY

Only a few hospitals in Greece have experience in obstructive cardiomyopathy surgery and muscle resection, with or without combined mitral valve surgery.

HEART TUMORS

There is also a particular interest in the modern surgical treatment of heart tumors (e.g. myxoma) using new surgical techniques.
