The Hemodynamic Laboratory of Metropolitan Hospital is one of the few centers in Greece certified by the Ministry of Health and the Central Health Council (KESY) to perform transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and transcatheter mitral valve repair using the MitraClip system.

The Laboratory is staffed by experienced interventional cardiologists, specialized nursing and technical personnel, and operates 24/7, 365 days a year, providing full coverage even for the most complex cases. It is ISO-certified and internationally recognized for its exceptionally low complication rates.

It is equipped with the latest imaging and coronary physiology assessment technologies, as well as advanced interventional therapies:

  • Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS)
  • Coronary Flow Reserve (FFR) measurement system
  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
  • Next-generation Rotational Atherectomy System (RotaPro)
  • Intravascular Lithotripsy (ShockWave)
  • Mechanical circulatory support systems (Intra-aortic balloon pump, ECMO)
  • Renal Guard system for protecting kidney function during contrast agent use in patients with renal impairment
  • Continuous hemofiltration and dialysis system for patients with acute or chronic renal failure
  • 3D Cardiac Mapping System (Carto3) for highly accurate electrophysiology procedures
  • Arctic Front Cardiac Cryoablation Catheter System for the treatment of atrial fibrillation

The diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed at the Interventional Cardiology Hemodynamic Laboratory include:

  • Immediate treatment of acute myocardial infarction and related complications
  • TAVI for patients with severe aortic valve stenosis
  • MitraClip for mitral valve regurgitation
  • Transcatheter annuloplasty of the mitral valve with the Carillon system
  • Left atrial appendage occlusion to prevent stroke in atrial fibrillation patients
  • Transcatheter closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO) and atrial septal defects
  • Percutaneous mitral balloon valvuloplasty (PMBV) for mitral stenosis
  • Closure of paravalvular leaks in patients with previous valve surgery
  • Complex coronary interventions including chronic total occlusions (CTO) using antegrade and retrograde approaches
  • Angioplasty of heavily calcified atherosclerotic lesions
  • Alcohol septal ablation for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
  • Implantation of leadless pacemakers
  • Management of atrial fibrillation
  • Implantation of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) and catheter ablation for complex and life-threatening arrhythmias
  • Cardiac resynchronization therapy
  • Renal sympathetic denervation for patients with resistant hypertension
