Profile
Graduate of the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. From 1989 to 1994, he trained in Internal Medicine at the First Department of Pathology, Sismanoglio Hospital, where he obtained the specialty of Pathology in 1994.
Between 1994 and 1996, he served as an Associate Physician at the First Propaedeutic Department of Internal Medicine of the University of Athens, at the Laiko General Hospital, working exclusively at the Diabetes Center and at the newly established Obesity Clinic. During this period, he completed his specialization in Diabetology, receiving the official title from the Ministry of Health following examinations. In 2005, he received the title of Specialist Certification of Obesity Professional Education from the IOTF (International Obesity Task Force) of the World Obesity Federation.
From 1994 to 2002, he held the position of Physician in the Department of Endocrinology-Diabetes-Metabolism, of the Athens Medical Center. Since January 2003, he has been serving as Director of the Department of Diabetes-Obesity-Metabolism at Metropolitan Hospital.
His scientific and clinical work focuses on obesity and diabetes mellitus, combining extensive clinical experience with active participation in research. He has presented his work at national, Mediterranean, European, and international conferences, while also contributing as Chairman, invited Speaker, member of Scientific and Organizing Committees, and reviewer for national congress proceedings.
He is a founding member of the Hellenic Obesity Medical Society, where he has repeatedly served on the Board of Directors, as President, General Secretary, Treasurer, as well as President of the Disciplinary Council. Since 1992, he has been a member of the European Association for the Study of Obesity and a member of the World Obesity Federation. Since 1991, he has been a member of the Hellenic Diabetes Association and since 1993, a member of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes.
He was a member of the Executive Board of the Organizing Committee of the 14th European Obesity Congress in 2005 and a member of the Organizing Committee of the 1st International Diabetes & Obesity Forum in 2010.
He has 22 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, with an h-index of 20 and 20,009 citations. He is, also, the publisher of two books: “Obesity in Clinical Practice” (2004) and “The Impact of Obesity on Health” (2020).
