Efthymia Kontela is a Specialist in Internal Medicine with extensive experience in Emergency Medicine, research, and medical education, guided by a strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and respect for each patient’s individual needs. She graduated from Medical School in 1996 and completed her specialization in Internal Medicine in 2005.
Since 2005, she has been practicing at Metropolitan Hospital, and since 2018 she has served as Director of Internal Medicine at the Emergency Department. Her primary professional interests include Emergency Medicine and Bioethics, combining acute clinical care with the principles of humanism and medical ethics in daily practice. She places particular emphasis on the coordination of multidisciplinary teams, aiming to provide comprehensive care for both acute and chronic patients, while also maintaining a private practice in Piraeus.
She holds an MSc in Bioethics from Democritus University of Thrace (2026), with research interests focused on the relationship between clinical practice and medical ethics. She has participated in research protocols, scientific publications, and presentations at both Greek and international conferences.
She has taught in Nursing Schools and, since 2023, has served as Clinical Co-Lead at University of Nicosia Medical School. She is a member of scientific societies such as the European Atherosclerosis Society, the Hellenic Obesity Society, and the Hellenic Society of Internal Medicine. She also continuously pursues further education in emerging technologies, special education, and medical coding.
