Sachinidis Theofilos

Theofilos Sachinidis holds a PhD from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2010) and a medical degree from the same institution (1997, grade “Very Good”, 7.98). He completed postgraduate training in Hepatology at UCL, Royal Free Hospital (2008). He is board-certified in Internal Medicine.
Since 2022, he has served as Director of the Internal Medicine Department and Head of the International Patients Department at Metropolitan Hospital. He previously held director-level roles at other private clinics and has maintained a private practice in Piraeus since 2009. He is also a physician certified by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, with longstanding experience examining seafarers and ship crews.

His research activity includes a doctoral dissertation in infectious diseases and publications in international journals such as the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research and the Journal of Chemotherapy, along with numerous presentations at conferences. He received a commendation for Best Poster at the 27th Panhellenic Congress of Internal Medicine (2024) for “The first case of dengue fever in Greece in 2024”, and he is featured in the book Medical Success Stories III.
He has extensive participation in conferences, including the annual Panhellenic Congresses of Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Diabetology, and Cardiometabolic Risk Factors, as well as the meetings of the American Diabetes Association and the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID). He has also served as a speaker and session chair, underscoring his contribution to the dissemination of scientific knowledge and the continuing education of healthcare professionals. In addition, he has appeared on numerous television and radio programs, and his articles have been published in newspapers and magazines for public outreach.

His long-standing work in Internal Medicine, together with his experience in medical tourism, enables him to pair rigorous professionalism with personalized care for every patient.

2002-2008: Trainee in Internal Medicine in the 1st Internal Medicine Department, General Hospital of Nikea-Piraeus. General Hospital of Nikea is one of the busiest hospitals in Greece. A referral hospital for the whole area of Piraeus and west districts of Athens which covers the hospital needs of a population of about 1.5-2 million. This 725-bed hospital is on call every three days and part of my experience was working regularly in the Accident and Emergency Department. My training, apart from working in the general medical ward and participating in the Department’s educational program, included three-month period training in the ICU, and three-month training in Cardiology. I also spent three months in the 4th Department of Internal Medicine, University of Athens, a well-known in Greece Infectious Diseases Referral Centre. During the most of my training period I assisted in the Department’s weekly Liver OP Clinic.
2000-2002: I worked as a staff grade physician in a private General Medicine Clinic (Piraeus, ‘Agios Nikolaos’). During this period I had twice the opportunity to escort patients on an emergency basis, by airplane (from Jamaica to Greece, from Egypt to Greece).
1999: Senior House Officer in General Hospital of Katerini (Internal Medicine, Cardiology, General Surgery) for three months.
1999-2000: It is obligatory in Greece to work in a village before starting any specialty training. I served this obligation in Leptokarya village (Pieria prefecture) doing my on calls in Katerini General Hospital.
1997-1999: I served my Military service (obligatory in Greece) as an army doctor for 18 months.

I have participated in 133 seminars/congresses in overall, all of them on Internal Medicine (Infectious Diseases, Hepatology, Diabetes, Hypertension, Pulmonology, Haematology). Total CME credits: 1601 (since 2005 when the Greek Health Authorities adopted the criteria of EACCME-UEMS).
