He graduated from the Medical School of Athens University in 1977.
He gained his thesis (MD) at the University of Athens School of Medicine in 1981.
He worked as lecturer of Surgical Medicine at the Academic Medical Centre, University of Amsterdam. He was Head of the B’ Surgical Department at the Asklepion Hospital, Voula (Athens). He was Professor of Descriptive Anatomy and Surgical Anatomy at the University of Athens Medical School and Professor of Surgical Anatomy and Technique at the Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, USA.
He is currently Chairman of Anatomy and Surgical Anatomy, University of Athens, School of Medicine.
He was written several medical books and published numerous articles for international medical journals. He has received awards for his contribution to medicine and the fight against drug-addiction as well as for his role in policy, both in Greece and abroad.
