The Department of Dermatology and Venereology at Metropolitan Hospital aims at the diagnosis and treatment of skin and venereal diseases of both outpatients and inpatients.
Diagnosis is achieved via:
- Clinical examination
- Dermatoscopy
- Removal of skin tissue for histological examination
The Department is assisted by other Metropolitan Hospital departments e.g. detection and identification of HPV or herpes simplex at the Molecular Biology Department, culture of nail clippings for diagnosis of onychomycosis.
Treatment may be conservative or interventional.
It is perfrormed interventionally with:
- Destruction of lesions assisted by cryotherapy or diathermocoagulation
- Surgical removal of lesions
