2002-2008: Trainee in Internal Medicine in the 1st Internal Medicine Department, General Hospital of Nikea-Piraeus. General Hospital of Nikea is one of the busiest hospitals in Greece. A referral hospital for the whole area of Piraeus and west districts of Athens which covers the hospital needs of a population of about 1.5-2 million. This 725-bed hospital is on call every three days and part of my experience was working regularly in the Accident and Emergency Department. My training, apart from working in the general medical ward and participating in the Department’s educational program, included three-month period training in the ICU, and three-month training in Cardiology. I also spent three months in the 4th Department of Internal Medicine, University of Athens, a well-known in Greece Infectious Diseases Referral Centre. During the most of my training period I assisted in the Department’s weekly Liver OP Clinic.
2000-2002: I worked as a staff grade physician in a private General Medicine Clinic (Piraeus, ‘Agios Nikolaos’). During this period I had twice the opportunity to escort patients on an emergency basis, by airplane (from Jamaica to Greece, from Egypt to Greece).
1999: Senior House Officer in General Hospital of Katerini (Internal Medicine, Cardiology, General Surgery) for three months.
1999-2000: It is obligatory in Greece to work in a village before starting any specialty training. I served this obligation in Leptokarya village (Pieria prefecture) doing my on calls in Katerini General Hospital.
1997-1999: I served my Military service (obligatory in Greece) as an army doctor for 18 months.
