The Oncology Center at Metropolitan Hospital consists of four Oncology Clinics with oncologists that have significant experience in oncology both in Greece and abroad. They have designed and participated in international and national clinical studies, having submitted significant scientific and educational work.
The oncology clinics are also supported by internists, experienced nurses who specialize in the hospitalization and care of cancer patients, psychologists, dietitians, as well as experienced administrative staff.
There is close collaboration with the Radiotherapy, Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology departments, the Pain Clinic, the Molecular Biology Lab and the Breast Clinic, which are the main partners of the Oncology Center. A significant activity of the Center is the multidisciplinary meeting that is held every week to discuss difficult oncology cases.
Drug dissolution is centralized under the responsibility of clinical and assistant pharmacists. The clinical pharmacists participate in the discussion of cases and visit the Department patients daily.
The majority of cases are treated in the One-Day Clinic (or the Oncology Short Hospitalization Department), the crown jewel of our hospital. This is where most chemotherapies as well as many aspirations, transfusions, hydrations, etc. are performed. Contemporary treatment imposes that cancer patients are not hospitalized in wards, unless it is necessary.
As part of clinical studies, the Oncology Center provides its patients with access to innovative cancer therapies, thus benefiting from access to a novel drug that may be beneficial for their disease, long before it is marketed. Doctors actively participate in research, giving patients access to innovative therapies.
