GENETIC COUNSELING AND HEREDITARY CANCER CLINIC
Nowadays, we are well aware that certain people run a higher risk of developing cancer during their lifetime due to some congenital genetic disorder. It is estimated that 5-10% of people with cancer may have a hereditary predisposition and, in the majority of cases, there is a relevant family history of cancer.
Genetic Oncology Counseling is a new healthcare service that aims to offer guidance and advice to patients and their families, as well as any individual with a high risk of developing cancer. With the appropriate prevention strategy, this risk may drop significantly or the cancer may be detected at an early stage and could be fully cured.
Our aim is to identify and help the individuals who meet the criteria for genetic testing reach the best possible decision for themselves (i.e. getting tested or not). We also aim to assist them in handling the test results by providing counseling and support to them and their families, as well as guidance for the best treatment options. We offer information on the multiple prevention strategies available, which make it possible to detect and diagnose cancer early, as well as the interventional surgical options that reduce the risk of cancer in carriers of inherited genetic disorders.
The Genetic Counseling and Hereditary Cancer Clinic can perform detailed assessment of the risk of hereditary cancer, by analyzing the potential predisposition based on the individual’s medical and family history, and providing information and counseling for the most suitable genetic test.
We offer guidance and monitoring, with individualized advice and prevention recommendations during genetic testing.
PREVENTION IS THE BEST TREATMENT
At the Breast and Women's Center we understand that a woman is behind every breast scan or histology report. We pay attention to the human factor and treat each case individually. The weekly Oncology Council ensures that every woman will receive the attention she deserves and the best possible treatment. With a deep sense of responsibility, we are waiting for you to discuss any symptoms or problems you may be having, so as to find a solution.
However, we are expecting all women out there, given that prevention is the best treatment. Before getting to the point of treating a breast tumor or any other type of gynecologic cancer detected by the woman herself, we must perform a mammography, or any other exam indicated by a specialist, and identify the problem on time. The long experience and qualifications of the Breast and Women's Center doctors can safeguard your most valuable asset, your health.
