She was born of Greek parents in Alexandria, Egypt in 1960. She attended the first classes of elementary school in Egypt and completed it in Greece. She is a graduate of the 16th Girls High School. In 1980 she passed the Greek university-entry exams and was admitted to the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She graduated in 1986 cum laude.
